Make the Most of Your Time with These Winter Activities in Valparaiso

Winter activities in Valaparaiso

Valparaiso isn’t far from Lake Michigan, so every winter our town gets hammered with cold temperatures and heavy, wet lake-effect snow. It’s enough to dampen your love of the entire season.

But this year, we at Paul Sur Buick GMC have vowed not to let the winter blues get us down. There’s plenty to do during winter in the area, so we recommend checking out these memorable winter activities in Valparaiso.

The best place go sledding or tobogganing is the Forest Park Golf Course, which invites visitors to its hills when the snow falls. Rogers-Lakewood Park does the same thing. Sledding is an excellent way for the family to spend time outside together.

Forest Park Golf Course also offers cross-country skiing trails, as do Sunset Hill Farm and the Indiana Dunes State Park. If you’ve never tried cross-country skiing, the Valparaiso area is the perfect place to try it due to the heavy snow.

Our personal favorite way to spend an afternoon is ice skating at Tower Park or Deep River Waterpark. These local hot-spots transform into winter wonderlands where you can challenge your balance and glide on the ice.

No matter how you spend this winter, we wish you a very merry holiday season!

Now’s the Time to Get Your Hands on the Buick Cascada in Sport Red

Buick Cascada in Sport Red

The revolutionary Buick Cascada has already garnered plenty of buzz, even before it was released. The premium convertible changed the way many people thought about Buick.

The automaker has realized something recently, though: you can’t offer a convertible without the color red.Buick Cascada in Sport Red

So, after already launching the 2017 Cascada Sport Touring edition earlier this year in True Blue, Buick has listened to its fans and added a stunning, vibrant Sport Red color option.

The Buick Cascada in Sport Red is a wonder to behold: edgy and athletic while still maintaining the confident, upscale class Buick is known for.

“We’ve heard it from customers all year: ‘What a beautiful car. Can I get it in red?’ Well yes, now you can,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick Sales, Service, and Marketing. “This new addition to the Cascada portfolio offers a modern style statement with blacked-out exterior trim and red interior stitching.”

A new Dark Effects package is also part of the mix, adding gloss-black finish for the grille, mirror caps, and 20-inch wheels, along with special body color trim and contrast stitching.

If you’ve been considering buying a Cascada, but were waiting for some sportier color options, now is your chance. The Sport Red color option and Dark Effects package will be available for a limited time and in limited quantities.

Tips for Cooking the Perfect Thanksgiving Feast

Perfect Thanksgiving Feast

Fall is in the air, and that means that there are many great things to look forward to. The weather cools down, the leaves begin to change colors, and some of the best holidays of the year are right around the corner. Although planning parties for the holidays can be stressful, it doesn’t have to be. Here are a few tips for cooking the perfect Thanksgiving feast. If you happened to miss cooking up something fantastic this year and want to prepare for what lies ahead, still make sure to tune in!

Perfect Thanksgiving Feast

Make a Plan

While it may sound simple, many people simply don’t have a detailed plan for how their day is going to go. Talk to everyone who is coming, and know exactly what each person is going to bring to the dinner. Assign jobs to anyone who is helping you, and make a timeline for how the day is going to play out.

Be Flexible

With that said, things won’t go exactly as you plan. As long as you accept that going into the day, it won’t cause as much stress. Be flexible, and don’t let the small things stress you out and ruin your day.

Prepare in Advance

Prepare as much of the dinner and decorations before the actual day as possible. There’s nothing worse than running around at the last minute trying to get things ready as the guests arrive.

Follow these simple tips and your Thanksgiving Day dinner will run much more smoothly moving forward.

How to Prepare Your Car for the Winter

Prepare Your Car for the Winter

As we move further into the fall months, it’s time to start thinking about cold weather car preparation. One often neglected aspect of this seasonal change is that people frequently don’t prepare their vehicles for the colder months. Here is how to prepare your car for the winter.

Prepare Your Car for the Winter

Clean and Wax

To protect your car against the inevitable salt barrage that comes with snow, clean your vehicle thoroughly. This means washing the entire exterior and undercarriage before finishing it with a wax job. This will help prevent the salt from eating away at your paint.

Fill With Supplies

While a majority of people make it through winter without an incident, it’s important to be prepared just in case. Put emergency supplies in an accessible part of your vehicle. This could be things like a warm blanket, food and snacks, emergency flares, an extra phone for emergency calls, and anything else you may be able to use in an emergency. This is often the difference between life and death in a winter accident.

Winter Tires

There are special winter tires that many vehicle manufacturers  recommend investing in. You may think your all-season tires will cut it but they don’t have the traction and reliability of a tire made for the icy winds of the season.

There are a lot of great things about the winter, but it’s important to be prepared for all scenarios. By following these two simple steps, you will avoid a lot of winter headaches.

Did you go to the Valparaiso’s Fall Harvest Festival?

Fall Harvest Festival

Fall means moderate temperatures, colorful leaves, kids in costumes, scary movies, and all sorts of fun stuff. Of course, that also means that people are celebrating the season in a number of ways. Here in Valparaiso, we have the Fall Harvest Festival. Coming up in mid-October, the festival is a family-friendly, free event with activities ranging from hayrides to a dog costume contest, if you’re the type to dress up your furry friend for Halloween.

In previous years the Fall Harvest Festival has only been a day long, but the event has become so popular it now spans two days of fall-themed activities. On Friday, October 14th from 4 to 6pm, as well as Saturday, October 15th from 11am until 2 pm, Downtown Valparaiso will be alive with fun activities. GMC Acadia Makes Wards 10 Best User Experience List

10 Best User Experience

Wards Auto has always compiled lists of the ‘10 Best’ vehicles in any particular category, such as the 10 Best Interiors. A newer category, 10 Best User Experience, has sprung up as a subcategory of interiors as a way for the experts behind Wards Auto to further analyze the user-friendliness and design of vehicle systems such as touchscreens, infotainment, and navigation. This year, the GMC Acadia made the cut.

10 Best User Experience

The category was globally varied. Including the Acadia, three American vehicles made the cut, while the rest of the list was made up of three Japanese and three German vehicles, as well as a Korean car, which demonstrated no particular country has a hold on the category.

The GMC Acadia was selected for the intuitiveness of its interface, making it easy to use for buyers new to the systems, as well as the simple elegance of its features. Navigating the touchscreen menu is a cinch to understand and functions smoothly and easily. Users can toggle between different options and even use voice commands without a hassle.

The GMC Acadia made the 10 Best User Experience list alongside big names like Mercedes, Lexus, BMW, Audi, and Infiniti – a big leap for a family hauler from GMC. However, the new 2017 Acadia was redesigned from the ground-up for modern amenities, and it seems the change has paid off.

What the Check Engine Light Means – Valparaiso, IN

check engine light

The check engine light is the most frustrating dashboard indicator light because there are so many things it could mean, from major problems to small issues. Here are some of the most common causes of the check engine light coming on. If you try a few simple fixes and the light doesn’t go off, you should head to a shop ASAP and have them run a diagnostic test to find out what the problem is.

You could have a loose gas cap, for example. This is a pretty common one that triggers the check engine light. Worn out spark plugs or spark plug wires are also a sign, and while this isn’t the most urgent problem, you will still need to replace them. You may have faulty oxygen sensors, your engine could be wet, or you might have deteriorated fuel injector rings.

Pay attention to your dashboard indicators and see if any other lights have come on in conjunction with the check engine light. Try slowing down and reducing the load on your engine and seeing if that makes the light go off. This isn’t a permanent fix, and you’ll still need to have it checked out, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Most of the issues associated with the check engine light are easy and cheap fixes, so see a mechanic and get them repaired as soon as they arise before bigger problems come up!

2017 Buick Cascada Sport Touring Edition Announced

2017 Buick Cascada Sport Touring

It was announced in mid-August that there will be a new trim level available with the Buick Cascada convertible, which just debuted for the 2016 model year. The 2017 Buick Cascada Sport Touring Edition, or Cascada ST, includes a custom paint color, new wheel design, and more.

2017 Buick Cascada Sport Touring

The ST is only offered in True Blue Metallic paint, which isn’t available on other Cascada models. The ST also has a black cloth top designed to create a quiet cabin, five-spoke 20-inch wheels, and Black Magic interior components. The Cascada ST’s sporty aspects are amped up in the ST, with sport pedals and a flat-bottom sport steering wheel.

The ST was first shown at the fifth annual Mille Mitten rally in Detroit, a 1,000-mile road trip through northern Michigan. The ST’s convertible top retracts in 17 seconds at speeds up to 31 miles per hour, one of many factors that make it a great road trip car. The Cascada and especially the ST were designed for road rally type adventures, so the Mille Mitten rally was the perfect place to debut the ST.

The Cascada ST is due to arrive in dealerships this fall and will be priced initially at $37,885. It will include all features and amenities offered on other Cascada models plus the Sport Touring features.

Tips for Recovering a Stolen Vehicle

recovering a stolen vehicle

If your car is stolen, it can be a shocking or scary situation. Believe it or not, vehicles are stolen once every 44 seconds in the US, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That’s why we’ve put together tips for recovering a stolen vehicle to help you handle such a crisis.

recovering a stolen vehicle

Get to a safe place. Take some deep breaths and make sure you are in a safe location. If you see your vehicle being stolen, don’t try to interact with the theft. Just be sure to contact the authorities and get to a well-lit area with lots of people. Safety is always a priority.

Be sure it was stolen. If you arrive to your parking spot to see your car missing, take a moment to consider if it has actually been stolen. Allstate suggests looking for “No Parking” signs, fire hydrants, or private drives. It may also have been repossessed if you missed some car payments.

Call the police. Whether it was repossessed, towed, or stolen, you’ll need to call the police. Most tow-truck drivers are required to inform the police if they take your vehicle. If it was stolen, then you can get a police report, which is necessary for insurance and legal purposes.

You will need a detailed description of your car, your VIN, license plate number, registration, and driver’s license number if possible. Keep copies of these in a safe location at home, that way you are protected in the event of a vehicle theft.

Call your insurance. Notifying your insurance will not only expedite your claim, but it will also keep you protected in case the thief does anything illegal with it. If they damage property or harm people, it can be difficult to dispute liability if you fail to call your insurance.

Prevent theft. Finally, be sure to park in well-lit locations, with the windows up and doors locked. Hide valuables under seats or in the trunk, and consider buying LoJack or OnStar to track your car.

New GMC Body-on-Frame SUV Could Arrive By 2020

GMC body-on-frame SUV

GMC may be adding a new rugged SUV. The brand is designing a vehicle based on a body-on-frame platform, sharing components with the Colorado and Canyon. Although nothing official has been released yet, this new SUV could be a sporty off-road crossover to rival rally cars.

GMC body-on-frame SUV

According to Motor Authority, Chevy actually offers a similar model overseas called the Chevrolet Trailblazer—a discontinued vehicle in the US. The GMC body-on-frame SUV could be a next-generation design that combines sporty appeal with practical space and styling. In the past few years, there has been a significant surge in demand for SUVs and pickups in the US, making this new body-on-frame SUV particularly exciting news for cars shoppers and auto enthusiasts alike.

“Any new body-on-frame SUV for GMC will likely be a next-generation design, as product planners are said to only be at an early stage of the development,” said Viknesh Vijayenthiran, who writes for Motor Authority.

Head of GMC Duncan Aldred recently hinted that new products for GMC are part of a growth strategy set to arrive in 2020. In addition to building brand awareness and the premium Denali trims, Aldred said new vehicles may be on the horizon. The new SUV will likely have a 6.2-liter V8 and available all-wheel drive. No word yet on alternative-fuel and hybrid designs. We can’t wait to see what GMC develops next.
